GUATEMALAN APPLICANTS
Fall Semester 2011

Admission Process

(1) All the application documents should reach KHU no later than April 22nd. for Fall semester, 2011 (classes begin September 1). Therefore, applications has to be delivered to SENACYT in Guatemala prior this date.
(2) The required documents are:
A. Application form
B. Official transcript * (Grades – Notas y traduccion)
C. Copy of degree certificates or graduation certificates (and translation)
D. Study plan including the applicant’s self-introduction
E. One recommendation letter by the applicant’s former (undergraduate) academic advisor (un profesor de licenciatura, ingenieria o maestria)
F. Document(s) on the applicant’s English proficiency (TOEFL de preferencia)
G. One copy of the applicant’s passport
(3) The documents are circulated to the faculty members in the desired area by the applicant. If the applicant is selected by a faculty member, then the student will be admitted and the faculty member will be his/her academic advisor.
(4) Applicants are encouraged to contact by email the laboratory or professor they want to work with and seek their acceptance then, include specifically the laboratory the application aims to.
(5) The selected applicant receives the admission letter indicating the scholarship.
(6) The student contacts the Korean Embassy to get the VISA.



Instructions and Remarks

(1) The above process is applied only in the area of science and engineering in Global Campus (not applicable to Seoul Campus).
(2) All documents should be in English (or include English translation).
(3) The score shown on the transcript must be recalculated based on a 100 scale or GPA 4.3 scale. The recalculation must be on the official transcript issued by the school.
(4) As Guatemalan Universities are strict in their grading system, applicants are encouraged to include explanation or certification of their academic positioning in their graduation group (percentiles)
(5) Priority is given to doctoral students. KHU may ask for an interview.
(6) The scholarship consists of
A. Full tuition exemption
B. Monthly stipend with the amount of. A half of the stipend is provided by KHU, and the other half by the student’s advisor.
(7) The student should maintain the semester GPA not lower than B+ to be eligible for the next semester’s scholarship.
(8) KHU is highly focus on research, Graduate Students are expected to spend significant amount of time in their laboratories doing research and writing their findings in order to publish them.
